Christmas
Merry Christmas, bloggies! I know I'm a little late but I have been so busy going here and doing this and visiting them that I haven't really had time to sit down in front of a computer for longer than a couple of minutes. I got to my parents house Tuesday and it's been pretty much non-stop action since then. Which I have loved every second of!
I spent time with Ariel and Zelda the night I got into town and then I followed that up with time spent rock climbing like a boss with TheKeeper and Mimurz and then I had a movie night with all my lovely ladies from summer camp! I feel like I have watched more movies in the past week than I have the entire semester! And I have to tell you, if you have not watched the movie Short Circuit, you need to leave Blogworld right now and go watch it. You can thank me later. (It's on Netflix, if that helps.)
In addition to my seemingly endless stream of movie watching, we did take time church it up Christmas Eve and spent Christmas morning chowing down on the ever elusive monkey bread (made dairy free by mom so I could eat it too!) and skiing to our hearts content at Schweitzer.
I got a telephoto lens for my camera and awesome beyond all reason skull crusher headphones. I bought myself an iPhone 4 so I've been using my 40 dollars of iTunes credit to buy some new songs. On top of that awesome stuff I also got a new helmet and a new pair of ski boots just because my dad loves me.
My mom got a pizza stone, so we're using that tonight because if anything, this is a pizza family. Except now I eat mine without cheese.
All in all though, Christmas this year was a total success. I can't wait for new year's!

the end already?
Ladies and gentlemen, the end of the year is upon us, and more importantly so is the end of the semester. Today I turned in my graphic design portfolio, my final essay for history of photography, and my overview of my teaching experience for Art 100. My brain is finished.
But,
(wait for it)
I'm DONE.
(Yes, really.)
For the whole semester, even! I mean wow! How does this happen? You spend all this time cranking out artwork and papers and lesson plans, studying for tests, showing up to class, and then boom! It's over. It's almost a little anti climactic because you put in all this work and all these long hours and then what? Grades. (But really...now what?)
Now I am going to throw myself into some watercolor and make some more cards. And get our family Christmas cards printed. And sent. Because you know what I have to worry about?
Nothing.
Isn't it awesome?
I still can't believe it. It doesn't feel real. This is the weirdest semester of my college career though, let me tell you that. It flew by. And not just like a leisurely plane ride for a couple hours type of flying either. No way. It was fighter jet speed, no delays or cancellations here, folks. Thanksgiving break came and went in the blink of an eye and then there was three weeks left in the semester.
One week where I wanted to pull out all my hair. One week where I turned in a bunch of assignments and cranked out some serious papers. And this week. Which clearly is the week for celebrating. Seriously. It started with my painting being taken captive for display in the Provost office ALL OF NEXT SEMESTER. Yeah, that's right. I know! And now stuff that was due tomorrow and Friday is all taken care of. I mean, I don't want to brag or anything, but I feel pretty rad right now.
So there you have it. Now it can officially be Christmas time. Yes, please.

well, there's that i suppose
So I have been trying to figure out how to start selling my artwork. I was contemplating Etsy or Artfire but neither of those were what I was looking for. I got the idea to try my hand at selling things on TheBlog, except that I really didn't know how I would want to go about doing that and then it just turned into a place to show my artwork. I didn't have anything listed as for sale or a place for payment. Mostly it was just this idea floating around in the deep caverns of my brain. You know how it is.
And then I went to this craft fair with my friend where we ended up selling absolutely nothing to anyone. Rude! So we decided that maybe the blogging idea wasn't such a bad one and hey! but what if we did it together? And that's what happened.
The site isn't fully functional yet and probably won't be up and running completely until January. We have a lot of art to photograph and prices to figure out. There is still a lot of work to be done, but once it's all finished and put together it will be glorious! Glorious! I tell you what!
I am going to list all sorts of things like watercolors, prints, and paintings because I am up to my ears in artwork and but wouldn't it be nice to make some money from all that hard work? Plus the fact that I'm taking three more studio classes next semester which will give me the opportunity to create even more awesome artwork. Dudes, you can't even imagine.
In changing of the subjects, there is some life news I feel that I should bring up. 1) It has been four months since I started dating Somebody-Very-Important. Four months! Did you even know? I mean but wow! I hadn't realized that much time had gone by. And 2) I decided to completely cut out dairy from my diet. No more milk. No more cheese. You know the drill. So far so good, honestly. The only time I really regret it is when people are eating pizza in front of me. But whenever I consume the moo cow products it makes me sick, so it's not worth it to me to try digesting the cheesy goodness.
Also, Christmas is coming up soon - which I think you probably already gathered being that it is December after all. I designed our family Christmas card this year, so if you're related to me you have that to look forward to. In addition to the Christmas card I'm also sending out the most awesome Christmas presents ever - so be on the lookout for something awesome, potentially. But that's all I have to say about that.
Ahem.
And now? Bed time. For real.

Music To My Ears
You know, I was thinking today. In the car. I have a Christmas music playlist on my iPhone, and I have been listening to it almost nonstop since I created it. And I was thinking about all my favorite Christmas songs. Songs are like movies, you know, because everyone has their favorites.
I grew up with Alvin and Chipmunks' Christmas music. I still love them, but Prince Charming can't really stand them so I only get to listen to them when he's not around. Which is kind of sad, but at the same time I have loads upon loads of other really good Christmas music to listen to as well.
My recently favorite new Christmas song is by Train. It's the one they've been playing in those coke commercials with the Santa and the snow globe and the playing with the gravity sort of fun times. And I've been listening to Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" while I dance around in the living room like a lovesick teenager all trying to be cool and everything. My sister thinks I'm nuts, but do you know how fun it is to just let go of all your cares and move your body around when there's no one to "impress"?
And then of course, there are the classics. Rudolph, Frosty, etc. But I've never really been a fan of those. I do love me some "Let It Snow" and "Winter Wonderland" though. Along with Jessica Simpson's "What Christmas Means To Me" (which is my favorite by her. That and her version of "Baby It's Cold Outside" with Nick).
Too bad they're not together anymore.
Anyway, I do love to listen to Silent Night, Away In A Manger, and songs of that sort too. They have more of a special meaning to me - you know, a way to keep Christ in Christmas and to remember what we are actually celebrating.
What are you favorite Christmas songs? What puts you into the Christmas Mood?

Christmas Entertainment?
Every year for as long as I can remember I have watched the movie A Christmas Story while it played for 24 hours on television. We own a copy of the movie, I believe in VHS format as well as DVD. It's my dad's favorite Christmas movie and we know all of the quotes.
Prince Charming's family is all about the National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (spare me!). But you know, to each their own.
I love to watch White Christmas (We'll follow the old man wherever he wants to go, as long as he wants to go...) however, the Sister's act is my favorite.
Others of my favorite Christmas movie watch list are The Grinch (With Jim Carrey), Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (Burger Meister Meister Burger!!), Frosty the Snowman, and you know, the funny and hilariously corny Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel are always a blast to make fun of as well.
But I have to tell you, I have to. I mean, I just can't not tell you! My favorite, absolute favoritey favorite Christmas movie is The Santa Clause with Tim Allen. Hands down. No competition. I love that movie. Love, love, love, love.
What's your favorite Christmas movie? The must-watch on your to Christmas to-do list?

3 Days
And then I'm off to a land of sunshine, warmer weather, and family drama!
I've been home since Friday morning wreaking havoc, causing mental meltdowns, and stealing cookies from the kitchen. You know, all my usual shenanigans.
Tonight we're partying with the old people across the border. We'll eat cookies and have dinner while my parents hang with their lovely cross-border co-workers. Then tomorrow I'm off to Prince's house in the morning for more present opening.
After that I'm participating in the third opportunity to open wrapped gifts with TheKeeper, TheMechanic, DP and our parental units. Monday will be full of mi familia running around the house like chickens with their heads cut off packing for our upcoming world travels. Dad insists he will skiing on Monday while Mom does laundry and packs.
I am already all packed. It's one perk of living out of the house, when I come from school I'm already all packed.
The tree looks beautiful and has a lovely arrangement of packages underneath its ever-shedding branches. And just like the good children that we are,we've all been snooping to little hearts content and guessing what Santa brought us never picking up the presents or shaking/tossing/pounding on/tearing open corners to see what loot we are about to unwrap come Sunday night.

Happy Holly Jolly Christmastime
Well interwebs, I have completed my very last final of the semester. Which I received an 87.5% on, so who's to complain? This is the first semester of my college career where it appears I am passing all my classes. It's amazing.
I seriously forgot how good it felt to achieve good grades in school.
It. is. amazing. I don't care what other people say. I love getting As and Bs. *ahem* I guess that's to be expected though, but last year I was too content to just get a C in everything that I let my motivation for positive work output on the back burner and let my inner procrastinator shine through like the sun.
Not this year.
This year I was still able to procrastinate (because it's in my nature) but I got everything done that needed to be and I passed everything that was important. Which was mostly everything I did.
And now, this semester is all over. Completely finished, honey I have nothing left to do except pack up all my stuff I'll need over break. And I'm really happy about that. I'm really happy about a lot of things in my life actually.
I'm really happy that school is over for the semester.
I'm really happy that my Drawing 1 teacher (TheProf) is going to continue as my Design Processes 2 instructor.
I'm really happy that the Christmas season is upon us (although that doesn't go without the 'holy crap where did 2009 disappear to? that cheeky son of a gun).
I'm really happy that I'm going to see my SoCal familia in about a week-ish.
I'm really happy my mommy's little sister who just happens to be one of my favorite aunts sent me a whopping two CDs chalked full of good and awesome amazing Christmas music.
I'm really happy that all of my dreams that past few nights have somehow involved my father and in each dream he was always really happy and smiley.
I'm really happy Prince and I have been together for just a little over a year.
I'm really happy with the amount of people who follow (and comment) on my little bitty blog.
I'm really happy that I'm just really happy.
I'm really happy that I get to go on a date tonight with Prince Charming and we're dressing up for it. He even said he'll let me have steak tonight! mmmmmmmmmm
And I'm really happy that tomorrow morning I'm going home to Hayden so I don't have to sleep in the dorms until January.
Oh happiness, how good it is to finally know you again. The end of the semester can be so stressful.

15. building snowmen, and snowwomen - hey i'm not biased! ha, ha.
16. watching The Santa Clause
17. seeing all the Christmas lights around town
18. decorating the house (and the tree even though I didn't get to do that at all this year. boohoo.)
19. listening to Michael Bubble while I drive while it's snowing at night

25. and last, but not least, just Christmas in general
What do you love about Christmas?
This post is my 250th. I wasn't going to say anything until I found it slightly ironic in a cool sort of way. Christmas is on the 25th, you know. And my list is 25 long. So you know, just add the zero. :)

Honey, It's Cold Outside
Is it really December already?
I feel like yesterday I moved into this forsaken dormitory, only to turn around to shut the door and find myself shivering my buns off in negative degree weather sans any sign of that white flaky stuff they write songs about.
Thanksgiving break snuck up on me like Sneaky Snake going after your root beer. (Please tell me at least one of you out there caught my reference to the Tom T Hall song?)
(And apparently snuck isn't a word? It's being underlined in red. But sneaked just doesn't right to me. Call me a bad grammar user (HA!) but I'm sticking with snuck because I'm stubborn.)
Anyway, back to Thanksgiving break - because it wasn't really long enough and then it seemed to thwart motivation for school with promises of "But we only have three weeks left!" And lemme just say, motivation to do three more weeks of work is like dangling chocolate in front of my sister and then telling her she has to run a marathon in order to scarf down said chocolate like there was no tomorrow.
The DP loves her some chocolatey treats. Doesn't matter what time of year, who made the chocolate delight, and the darker it is the better. She can be easily bribed with chocolate too - just keep that in mind if you ever find yourself on her bad side.
But November is Novemore and December has brought upon our college campus a reign of frozen terror. One can not venture out of doors without a numb sensation engulfing their entire being. One must also keep touching one's nose whilst walking to class in order to ensure that frost bite has not incurred and succeeded with leaving oneself nose-less. Because a face without a nose is just ridiculous. I mean, lets be honest.
And besides that fact that it seems 2009 has decided to be the fastest year ever, as well as this semester seemingly whirring past, it's only a matter of days before I embark on a trip to SoCal to visit with family for the occasion of the Christmas holiday.
Can I just say that it's still perfectly find to wish someone a Merry Christmas? I mean does everyone get offended when that is in fact the holiday that a majority of us intend to celebrate during this festive season? I know full well that there are other holidays during this time in which people tend to participate, but would you be offended if Christmas was your holiday of choice and someone wished you a happy Hanukkah?
Really?
Okay, so I feel like this post is slightly random and full of useless bits of fluff tied together under the assumption that December has moved in far too fast for my liking?
Oh yeah, I remember why I started this post.
My family already put up their tree! With out me! Oy! It doesn't feel like it's far enough into December to be putting up a tree.
I feel kind of left out.
But on the plus side, I think I've called my mom on the telephone at least once every day since I've been back at school. It's turning into a daily ritual. And since Tues. and Thurs. I walk home from the coffee shop sans company, it's nice to talk to her while my legs move back and forth trying to transport my torso back to my room while also not falling off at the hips because they are so numb...

Desire
Bloggies, Christmas is coming.
I know, I know! What's the rush? We haven't even gotten past Thanksgiving yet. But I just can't help the excitement, okay?
The coffee shop has all the yummy holiday syrups in now like Gingerbread, Pumpkin Spice, and Peppermint. Every time I walk into work it smells like Christmas! Not to mention that all of the stores have started to set up their Christmas displays as well.
So like a good little girl I've been scheming about all the goodies I want this year. Which is odd for me because usually getting me to tell you what I want as a gift is the equivalent of pulling teeth. Especially if your name is Prince and half of what I tell you to buy me you can't afford.
I've come up with a nice list with things like 'new laundry bag' and 'jeans from Vanity' - you know, things that are fast, easy and *cheap.*
But Internets, do you know what I really want?
No. You don't.
And that's okay, because all the interaction we ever have is you reading my blog and maybe if you're lucky I'll read your blog. Ha, ha.
Anyway, back to me. Because I'm all sorts of greedy and selfish and attention loving.
I want a camera.
I've wanted a new camera since I was a senior in high school.
Not a big deal right?
You drive down to the store, pick up a nifty little point-and-shoot who's main purpose in life is toannoy the heck out of you by eating through batteries and wrecking your pictures with unnecessary flashes capture the lovely moments of your life.
Wrong.
Not only am I anti nifty little point-and-shoot cameras, the kind of camera I want costs upwards of 400 dollars.
Yeah.
Instead of asking for it for Christmas every year you know what I need to do? I need tobeg and plead and cry until someone feels sorry for me and buys me exactly what I want out of the goodness of their heart start saving.
Unless, you know, the first idea worked...

Better Late Than Never

The former two pictures are the pictures of my sister and brother entangled in their respective objects. I think they are comical and since I've figured a way to attach said photos to the blog, I've posted them here. The latter three photos are pictures of ornaments hanging on our tree and some table decorations. I was bored and so I abducted my dad's AWESOME pentax digital camera. Feeling inspired I took several pictures.
Christmas is one of my favorite days. I like it even better when we have a bunch of family milling about our humble abode. This year was a bit different. For both Thanksgiving and Christmas it's been just the six of us.
We opened presents this morning to find that my sister has been granted a Nintendo DS and my brother has recieved his much anticipated iPod Nano generation 4 with 8 gigs. My other brother has been gifted with a Rubik's Cube that has FIVE cubes. My mother has a new necklace and I got a jacket that I've had my eye on for a while. My father, however, has been given a machine nerf gun. Oh brother. What adventure can this hold? You're about to find out.
So I'm sitting in here, minding my own business and typing up this entry when all of a sudden the office door blows wide open. My sister turns around and says, "what ya doin' dad?" As to which my wonderful father whom I absolutely positively ADORE answers her with a "nothing sweetie." The door closes but only to re-open not thirty seconds later and a blast of orange and black darts rain down on my sister and me. Shrieks could probably be heard in China.
What other chaotic escapades could find us today? Well, for one we are eating duck tonight instead of the regular Holiday Ham. That should be a feast to remember. My oma down in California is eating an Italian Christmas dinner I've been told. And I still may make it over to M's today to hand his gift over. I swear, I think it's the most epic gift I've ever given anyone. I am excited. :-)

Hurry Up And Wait
Well I've been meaning to post blogs more often, however, being at home there is something that isn't allowing me to upload pictures. It's kind of making me angry but I want to post anyway so I'm sorry this blog is picturless, but you'll just have to deal.
So much has happened since I've been home. I had epic sledding adventures with my boyfriend. He has what's called a 'snow skate' which is like a skateboard, but for snow. Yeah, it's fun until I feel like I'm out of control and then I just biff it. Off goes the snowskate down the hill, and there is N just sitting in the middle of path watching it cascade out of reach. M's friend snatched it up when it reache the bottom and I just walked down. Ridiculous. I just need more practice though. Ha, ha.
I have also had the opportunity to decorate the house for Christmas. We have a ledge in our living room that I got to decorate. My sister wrapped herself up in some garlan that we put up on the ledge. We thought she resembled a Christmas tree. Then my brother decides to wrap himself up in a string of lights. I became inspired. He had wrapped himself in just plain white lights. So I grab a string of Poinsetta lights and wrap them all around him, draping some over his shoulders and through his fingers. My sister wants to add to the project, so she snags herself a string of colored lights and we wrap my brother, D, up in them too. Not to be too simple, I take four ornaments off the couch and place them conspicuously from the light strings criscrossing his body. The pictures came out wonderfully and I'm sad that right now I can't share them with you.
Tonight we spent at Grandma and Grandpa's house. It was a Christmas Eve celebration. Family get-togethers are some of my favorite memories. It's always fun to get to hang out with people you're related to - well, at least in my family anyways. I know there are some families out there that simply can't stand each other. I think that's a shame, but sometimes that's the way it goes. I just feel lucky that that's not the case for me and my family.
And also today is a double special day. Not only is it Christmas Eve, but it is also M's and mine 1 month aniversary. Woo hoo! It feels like it's been longer than that to me, but also it feels shorter at the same time. I think for me, time goes faster because we live in two different towns. It's definitely hard to spend so much time apart, but M and I have a theory - a couple who can survive being apart from each for an extended period of time, well, they're strong. So we figure, if we can make it through being apart then we're pretty strong. We have determined though, that we do not have a long distance relationship. We have decided to call it medium distance. One, because I'm not far enough away that I have to take a plane home, and two, because I'm close enough to come up and visit for the weekend every so often.
So anyway, tomorrow is Christmas. In my opinion it's the most offensive holiday of the whole year. More people celebrate Christmas in this country than any other holiday around this time of year. Why are we so worried about offending people? If a Jew wished me a Happy Hannuka, I would not be seriously offended. I just don't get why people are so worried about offending someone. Well, okay yeah I kind of do get it, but I think it's ridiculous and that people are way overboard in their approach to Christmas. Just relax. Look, we're celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, hence CHRISTmas. It's not X-mas. It's not happy holidays. It's not about presents (although those are nice). It's not about getting the biggest and best gift. It's not about everybody else. It's about Jesus. It's about family. It's about realizing why we're here. It's about what happened on the cross. It's about life. It's a celebration of a birth. It's a celebration of love. So all the people rushing about here and there, buying this and that, and driving all around town to find the biggest and best - well just know that it's all for not. Almost all those things you buy are going to end up in some second hand thrift store next year.
Now, to be completely honest, I am excited to open my presents tomorrow morning. But I have to take time and remind myself every year that I don't need to get wrapped up in the gift aspect of Christmas. Because it is about something that is so much bigger than gifts. And this year I have no idea what awaits me under the tree, but it should be good. I know there are gifts under the tree for some members of this family that they have waited long and hard for. And I'm excited for them too.

Rockin Around The Christmas Tree

It is now officially the Christmas season. There are christmas tree lots everywhere, and in the common's at school there's a huge christmas tree in the middle of a rotunda, or however you spell it. And here in my cozy little dorm room I have my own little Charlie Brown Christmas Tree which I find incredibly delightful.
I put it up as soon as I got home from Thanksgiving vacation, and now it's taken up residence on top or our white microwave and black refridgerator, who we've appropriately named Ebony and Ivory.
Hopefully soon enough we'll have a blanket of snow on the ground and everything will really start looking a lot like Christmas.
My brother told me that our tree was pretty pathetic because it didn't have any gifts under it. I told him to just wait and see, because I'm willing to bet that before we leave on Winter Break, there will be plenty of "presents" underneath it. haha.
The people in my hall always laugh when they see our little tree through the open door into our room. They have a hard time believing that I really got one. Daddy bought it for me at Shopko. It was a three day sale and I said "Get two!" which made my mom crack up with laughter. She always likes it when I come home because I always make her laugh. I like to make her laugh. :-)
This Christmas is going to be different, I think, than any other Christmas I've ever celebrated before. But I think that's part of growing up. I don't think things are supposed to stay the same, no matter how much we may want them to.
So my little Charlie Brown tree has me smiling and thinking, am I really go to enjoy this Christmas as much as I have other Christmases in the past? The answer to that question is yes. A great woman once said, "I've learned that a greater part of our happiness comes mostly from our disposition and not our circumstance." - Martha Washington.
