Lack of Planning

I'm in Hayden for the week of Thanksgiving. So far, it's rained, snowed and shined since I arrived on a clear, cold Saturday morning. Prince and I spent the day in the Friday mindset because it was weird to be a day off from when we normally show up.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Well, it was my favorite holiday - but I think I might have to get a new one. Unfortunate, I know.

I used to look forward to it every year because all my SoCal family decided to show up and for four days my house would be full of 14 people and I just couldn't. get. enough. My grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousins and the six of us would eat turkey until we had to put on our fat pants, sit on the swing and cry, and fall asleep in front of the TV.

In later years we shredded the mountain because it opened Thanksgiving day and then we'd come home to a smoked turkey, yams with marshmallows, and stuffing. And then we'd all crowd around the table drinking sparkling cider and making fun of each other for falling down the slope earlier in the day.

But not this year.

This year there is no traveling for the holiday. This year the Californians are staying in the south and soaking up their sun rays because we will not be joining them until Christmas this year. Part of this has to do with my granddad's ability to travel in a good mindset because of his advanced Parkinson's Disease and part of it has to do with the economy.

Whatever.

All of it sucks.

And my parents told me that my mom's sister is having her in-laws over and my grandparents are headed there too? So I guess we're going to be all alone for Thanksgiving. The Californians didn't come last year either, but my mom's family did.

And this year?

No one.

Yeah, I'm stoked too.

  1. Oh Princess, I honestly do know how you feel. I've actually been there. :(

I wish you were coming along to my house. Please, please, please come see me while you're home this weekend, or I'll try to work out a trip over there. You are welcome here ANYtime. Miss you.
